Reporting to Communities
Every November, school jurisdictions carefully review their results reports to gauge their progress toward achieving the goals and outcomes of their Three-Year Education Plans. Jurisdictions then report on their progress towards meeting these goals in their Annual Education Results Report (AERR). This includes reporting on and responding to the results reports received from Alberta Education, as well as measuring and reporting local measures.
Accountability Pillar jurisdiction measure results and evaluations are a primary source of information for assessing and reporting on performance, and are combined with jurisdiction information to determine where improvements are needed.
AERRs provide jurisdictions and schools with an opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments, while reporting on their performance. The AERR is prepared under the direction of the local school board, using a process determined by jurisdiction staff. The report is approved by the board or francophone authority and lets stakeholders know where the jurisdiction is now, relative to where it wants to be in achieving its goals and outcomes. It demonstrates that the school board is accountable for results, and for the best use of resources to provide quality programs for students, while also addressing areas of improvement.
Annual Education Results Reports are public documents meant to inform parents and the public. To facilitate access to results information, jurisdictions are required to post their AERRs on the school board websites by November 30 each year. They are also encouraged to use tools such as newspaper inserts, brochures, jurisdiction report cards and community meetings to make the information more broadly accessible to parents and the public.
Included in the AERR is the Accountability Pillar Overall Summary which provides current resultson all measures and evaluations. The Jurisdiction Accountability Pillar summaries are available here. This summary enables parents and the public to see, at a glance, the progress the jurisdiction is making in achieving its goals and outcomes. The interpretation of the results should take into consideration the local context of the jurisdiction. School jurisdiction website are available here.
Alberta Education reviews planning and reporting requirements for school jurisdictions annually. These requirements are provided to jurisdictions in the school board planning and reporting guide.
