Supports for School Jurisdictions
Alberta Education recognizes and respects the knowledge, skill and ability of school authorities to foster continuous improvement in their schools.
Improvement is a continuous process that begins at the school level. The Accountability Pillar was designed to ensure that school authorities are responsible for their Accountability Pillar results, and for addressing low or declining results. Alberta Education works with school authorities in their improvement efforts, and school authorities work with their schools to implement improvement actions.
A comprehensive resource, Supporting Continuous Improvement in Schools: A Toolkit, is being developed to assist school authorities in their improvement efforts. The Toolkit contains useful strategies and ideas school authorities can use to develop their improvement plans.
There are many other valuable sources of information and support that school authorities can draw from to build improvement plans, such as CASS, ASBA, regional consortia, universities and other school authorities.
The AISI Clearinghouse can also help school authorities find new and innovative approaches to school improvement.
Alberta Education will also work collaboratively with school authorities whose results continue to be low or decline over time, in order to produce locally developed approaches to improvement.
