Accountability Pillar

Supports for School Jurisdictions

Alberta Education recognizes and respects the knowledge, skill and ability of school authorities to foster continuous improvement in their schools.

Improvement is a continuous process that begins at the school level. The Accountability Pillar was designed to ensure that school authorities take responsability  for their results, and for addressing low or declining results. Alberta Education supports school authorities in their improvement efforts, and school authorities work with their schools to implement improvement actions.

Alberta Education provides advice to school authorities on education planning and results reporting. A concise reference guide is available on this topic.

There are many other valuable sources of information and support that school authorities can draw from to build improvement plans, such as CASS, ASBA, regional consortia, universities and other school authorities.

The AISI Clearinghouse can also help school authorities find new and innovative approaches to school improvement.

Alberta Education also follow up with school authorities whose results continue to be low or decline over time to encorage improvement efforts.
