2006 Education Satisfaction Survey

The 2005/2006 Satisfaction with Education in Alberta Survey is a set of six random sample telephone surveys conducted to assess satisfaction at the provincial level with key features of Alberta's education system. The surveys obtained opinions from senior high school students, parents of K-12 students, parents of children with severe special needs, teachers, school board members and the public.

Summary Report: Satisfaction with Education in Alberta Survey

Key Findings

  • 98% of students were satisfied with the quality of education, followed by board members (94%), teachers (94%), parents (K-12: 91%, special needs: 83%) and public (74%).

  • 97% of teachers, 96% of students, 96% of board members, 88% of parents of K-12 students and 87% of parents of children with severe special needs were satisfied with the quality of teaching.

  • 95% of students were satisfied that the education system meeting their needs and expectations, followed by board members (78%), parents (special needs: 77%, K-12: 74%), public (63%) and teachers (62%).

  • 87% of teachers and 83% of parents (K-12) were satisfied that students are taught the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for lifelong learning.

  • 83% of teachers, 83% of board members, 76% of parents (K-12) and 48% of the general public were satisfied that students are taught attitudes and behaviours to be successful at work when they leave school.

  • 94% of teachers, 92% of board members and 81% of parents of K-12 students were satisfied with the opportunity for parental involvement in decisions about child's education.

  • 85% of parents (K-12) were satisfied with their access to information about their child's educational progress and achievements.

  • 93% of board members, 72% of parents of K-12 students, 67% of parents of children with severe special needs and 67% of teachers indicated that the quality of education at schools has improved or stayed the same in the past 3 years.

  • 74% of parents of K-12 students, 74% of parents of children with severe special needs and 58% of general public were satisfied that they are receiving value for the money spent in schools.
