2008 Education Satisfaction Survey
The 2007/2008 Satisfaction with Education in Alberta Survey is a set of eight surveys conducted to assess satisfaction with key features of Alberta's education system. The surveys obtained opinions from senior high school students, parents of K-12 students, parents of children with severe special needs, teachers, school board members, superintendents, principals and the public.

Key Findings

All (100%) superintendents were satisfied with the quality of education, followed by students (99%), principals (98%), teachers (95%), board members (94%), parents (K-12: 88%, severe special needs: 79%) and the public (70%)

99% of principals, 98% of superintendents, 97% of teachers, 95% of students, 94% of board members, 88% of parents of K-12 students and 85% of parents of children with severe special needs were satisfied with the quality of teaching.

97% of superintendents and principals, 92% of board members, 91% of teachers, 82% of parents of K-12 students and 79% of parents of children with severe special needs were satisfied with the opportunity for parental involvement in decisions at schools.

96% of principals, 95% of superintendents, 92% of teachers, 89% of board members and 83% of parents of K-12 students were satisfied with the opportunity for parental involvement in decisions about child’s education.

95% of superintendents, 93% of principals, 91% of board members, 76% of teachers, 74% of parents of K-12 students and 64% of parents of children with severe special needs indicated that the quality of education at schools has improved or stayed the same in the past 3 years.

93% of superintendents, 89% of principals, 82% of board members, 69% of teachers and 61% of parents of K-12 students indicated that the quality of the Alberta K to 12 System has improved or stayed the same in the past 3 years.

92% of teachers and 79% of parents of K-12 students were satisfied that students are taught the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for lifelong learning.

91% of principals, 90% of superintendents, 82% of teachers, 75% of board members, 67% of parents of K-12 students and 46% of the public were satisfied that students are taught attitudes and behaviours to be successful at work when they leave school.

86% of superintendents, 63% of board members, 58% of principals, 56% of parents of K-12 students and 55% of teachers agreed that leadership at provincial level effectively supports and facilitates teaching and learning.

76% of parents of K-12 students and parents of children with severe special needs and 61% of the public were satisfied that they are receiving value for money spent in schools.

71% of superintendents, 67% of principals, 58% of board members, 55% of the public, 53% of teachers and parents of K-12 students, and 52% of parents of children with severe special needs agreed that Alberta Education system communicates effectively with the public.
