2011 Education Satisfaction Survey
The 2011 Satisfaction with Education in Alberta Survey is a set of nine surveys conducted to assess satisfaction with key features of Alberta's education system. The surveys obtained opinions from senior high school students, parents of K-12 students, parents of students with severe special needs, teachers, principals, school board trustees, and the public. The surveys also obtained opinions from self-identified Aboriginal senior high school students and parents of self-identified Aboriginal students.

Key Findings

Almost all (99%) students and principals, 98% of school board trustees, 96% of teachers, 90% of parents of K-12 students, 83% of parents of students with severe special needs, and 74% of the public were satisfied with the quality of education at schools.

Almost all principals (99%), 98% of students, 97% of teachers and school board trustees, 88% of parents of students with severe special needs, and 86% of parents of K-12 students were satisfied with the quality of teaching at schools.

Almost all (99%) principals, 92% of teachers, 88% of school board trustees, 81% of parents of students with severe special needs, and 75% of parents of K-12 students were satisfied with the opportunity for parental involvement in decisions at school.

97% of principals, 85% of school board trustees, 84% of teachers, 72% of parents of Grade 7-12 students, and 49% of the public were satisfied that students are taught attitudes and behaviours to be successful at work when they leave school.

94% of principals, 85% of school board trustees, 76% of teachers, 54% of parents of Grade 7-12 students, and 47% of the public were satisfied that students demonstrate attitudes and behaviours to be successful at work when they leave school.

94% of school board trustees, 90% of principals, 77% of teachers, 73% of parents of Grade 3-12 students and 65% of parents of students with severe special needs indicated that the quality of education at schools has improved or stayed the same in the past 3 years.

85% of principals, 79% of school board trustees, 65% of parents of Grade 3-12 students, and 64% of teachers indicated that the quality of the Alberta K to 12 system in general has improved or stayed the same in the past 3 years.

79% of parents of students with severe special needs, 78% of parents of K-12 students and 56% of the public were satisfied that they are receiving value for money spent in schools.

67% of principals, 56% of teachers, 55% of parents of students with severe special needs, 50% of school board trustees, 48% of parents of K-12 students, and 46% of the public agreed that Alberta’s Education system communicates effectively with the public.

61% of principals, 59% of school board trustees, 53% of parents of K-12 students, 51% of teachers, and 46% of the public agreed that the leadership at the provincial level effectively supports and facilitates teaching and learning.

61% of principals, 55% of parents of students with severe special needs, 50% of school board trustees, 40% of the public, 43% of the parents of K-12 students, and 38% of teachers were satisfied that their input into the education of students is considered by Alberta Education.

97% of self-identified Aboriginal students and 88% of parents of self-identified Aboriginal students were satisfied with the quality of education at schools.
