About ATL Media, Devices and Services
Media and Devices
Like other technologies, ATL ranges from simple tools to complex systems. It could be as simple as providing a pencil grip for writing or as complex as a computer with screen reading software for reading and learning.
ATL Media and Devices can be categorized as to the area of need for individual students. These categories include but are not exclusive to:
| Reading | Vision |
| Writing | Hearing |
| Math | Organization |
| Communication | Memory |
Services
ATL Services are the strategies, ideas, supports and personnel that are necessary to make the device(s) work functionally for the student.
ATL Services include:
- knowledge and expertise about the student ,
- the assessment process,
- evaluation of the tools,
- training, and
- strategies for implementing the devices.
Effective use of ATL for the student also includes:
- an understanding of the devices,
- how to use them effectively to make a difference for the student,
- how to incorporate ATL into daily lessons and routines, and
- how to use general classroom technologies as ATL.
Without effective services in place, the benefits of the ATL devices and media will not be realized. Abandonment of ATL is a common outcome if effective services have not been put in place to support the devices obtained for a struggling student.
