Community of Practice

Alberta Education hosted a Community of Practice event on April 23, 2007. The purpose of this event was to:

  1. Establish a community of practice for the Emerge Wireless Learning Project;
  2. Understand the 1:1 Wireless Learning Project;
  3. Clarify roles and responsibilities of participants;
  4. Review and provide feedback to the research plan; and,
  5. Develop plans for professional development and community activities.

Wireless Learning Symposium

Alberta Education hosted a Wireless Learning Symposium on October 30th, 2006. The purpose of the symposium was to:

  • Share experiences with leading researchers and educators regarding potential strategies and actions toward effective one-to-one mobile computing.
  • Provide participants with a better understanding of the lessons learned, including the benefits, and challenges of one-to-one mobile computing.

The six themes addressed at the symposium included:

  1. Essential conditions for success of 1:1 mobile computing;
  2. Planning and implementation best practices for 1:1 mobile computing initiatives;
  3. Creating community / division / school / classroom enthusiasm for 1:1 mobile computing;
  4. Effective pedagogical practices in the 1:1 mobile computing classroom;
  5. Planning for sustainability of 1:1 mobile computing; and
  6. Results and recommendations related to 1:1 mobile computing initiatives.
