Past Emerge Events
Community of Practice
Alberta Education hosted a Community of Practice event on April 23, 2007. The purpose of this event was to:
- Establish a community of practice for the Emerge Wireless Learning Project;
- Understand the 1:1 Wireless Learning Project;
- Clarify roles and responsibilities of participants;
- Review and provide feedback to the research plan; and,
- Develop plans for professional development and community activities.
Wireless Learning Symposium
Alberta Education hosted a Wireless Learning Symposium on October 30th, 2006. The purpose of the symposium was to:
- Share experiences with leading researchers and educators regarding potential strategies and actions toward effective one-to-one mobile computing.
- Provide participants with a better understanding of the lessons learned, including the benefits, and challenges of one-to-one mobile computing.
The six themes addressed at the symposium included:
- Essential conditions for success of 1:1 mobile computing;
- Planning and implementation best practices for 1:1 mobile computing initiatives;
- Creating community / division / school / classroom enthusiasm for 1:1 mobile computing;
- Effective pedagogical practices in the 1:1 mobile computing classroom;
- Planning for sustainability of 1:1 mobile computing; and
- Results and recommendations related to 1:1 mobile computing initiatives.
