Examples of the Standards for Students' Writing
The written responses in these documents are examples of student writing that meet or exceed the acceptable standard for student achievement. Along with the commentaries that accompany them, they should help teachers and students to understand the standards for student writing on achievement tests in relation to the scoring criteria.
The purpose of the sample responses is to illustrate the standards that govern central marking sessions and that anchor the selection of similar sample responses for marking sessions in subsequent years. The sample papers and commentaries are used to train markers to apply the scoring criteria consistently and to justify their decisions about scores in terms of each student’s work and the scoring criteria.
The sample responses included in these documents represent a very small sample of successful approaches to the English Language Arts and Social Studies written response assignments.
