Alberta's Commission on Learning

Introduction

Fall 2008 marked the fifth anniversary of the 2003 report issued by Alberta’s Commission on Learning.

This anniversary was a good opportunity to reflect back on the work that has been done regarding ACOL. The Commission’s report has had a large impact on Alberta’s education system, permeating the work plans and activities of many parts of the department.

Government alone was not responsible for implementing many of the ACOL Report’s recommendations. All education stakeholders had an important role to play.

This shared responsibility is a reflection of the working relationship between our organizations, and we appreciate all of the work related to the ACOL recommendations, both past and ongoing, done by our partners and stakeholders.

A Five Year ACOL Retrospective Report, focused on government’s responses to the Commission’s work five years ago, was shared with five education stakeholder associations for their comments and reflections.

Representatives from each organization also meet with the 2003 Commission Chair, Mrs. Patricia Mackenzie.

While work related to many of the recommendations is ongoing, the ACOL Retrospective concludes updating and reporting on the ACOL Report.
