High School to Post-Secondary Transition Rates

Updated September 2008

Alberta high school to post-secondary transition rates are calculated by tracking Grade 10 students for four and six years, then determining the percentages who have enrolled in an Alberta post-secondary institution or apprenticeship program within the tracking periods.

The six-year rate is the Accountability Pillar and the Ministry business plan measure. Post-secondary transition rate graph.

Notes:

  • Estimates for attrition and out of province post-secondary attendance are applied in calculating high school to post-secondary transition rates.
  • The rates for each year in the table above represent different Grade 10 cohorts. For example, for 2002/03, the four-year rate is based on the 1999/2000 Grade 10 cohort and the six-year rate is based on the 1996/97 cohort. The six year rate for the 1999/2000 Grade 10 cohort is reported in the 2004/05 column.
  • The four year rate was the Accountability Pillar measure in prior years.
  • Detailed information on the calculation of post-secondary transition rates is contained in the methodology document.
