Whitecourt school receives modernization funding
Investment in school infrastructure tops $610 million for 2007/08
“The Alberta government is committed to the health and safety of students,” said Minister of Education Ron Liepert. “This investment supports the Northern Gateway school board’s top modernization priority and will significantly enhance the learning environment for students attending this school.”
Hilltop Junior/Senior High School is receiving funding to increase the size of its gymnasium and enhance the school’s Career and Technology Studies classes. The next step is for Alberta Education staff to meet immediately with the local school board to finalize the scope of the project and determine the allocation of appropriate funding.
“This funding commitment is great news for the school and the community. It will be exciting to see the transformation of this school after the investment is applied to the facility,” said Whitecourt-Ste. Anne MLA George VanderBurg.
Last August, the government announced $197 million to support 26 major modernization projects throughout the province. With the additional $65 million, the government’s investment in new school infrastructure, as well as modernization and maintenance, totals more than $610 million for the 2007/08 fiscal year. The government’s 2007/10 Capital Plan includes
- 91 school projects in planning, design or construction stage
- 13 new schools opening 2007/08
- 45 modular classrooms
- 18 P3 schools (Edmonton - 9, Calgary - 9)
Strengthening our education system is part of Premier Ed Stelmach’s plan to secure Alberta’s future by building communities, greening our growth and creating opportunity.
