Hancock to attend School of the Future World Summit in Seattle
Edmonton... Improving Alberta’s already high achieving K-12 education system will be the focus of Minister of Education Dave Hancock’s participation in the 4th Annual School of the Future World Summit.
The summit, held December 1-4 in Seattle, Washington, will bring together education leaders from around the world to debate and discuss issues and challenges facing education systems.
“We need to continue to challenge ourselves to improve our education system,” said Hancock. “As Alberta develops into a knowledge-based economy trading out into the world, we must reflect not only on our strengths and weaknesses, but also learn from what others are doing.”
This year, summit participants will explore the theme “What’s Possible”. Topics include instructional and organizational design, technology integration, disruptive innovation, and skills students will need in the future. The summit’s keynote speaker, Linda Darling-Hammond, a professor of Education at Stanford University, specializes in research, teaching and policy.
“Alberta’s students benefit when we hear, apply and share best practices in education from around the world,” said Hancock. “I fully expect to bring back a wealth of fresh ideas that will help us develop education in Alberta to prepare students for the world into which they will graduate.”
The estimated cost of the trip, including travel and meals for Minister Hancock, is $1,900. The Minister will be accompanied by Mrs. Hancock at her own expense.
