Celebrate student engagement during Education Week

Students play a role in future of education

Edmonton... Albertans are invited to celebrate Education Week 2009 in schools and communities across the province from April 26 to May 2.

This year’s theme, Learning Connections - Celebrating Student Engagement, provides an opportunity to celebrate today’s students helping to create a bright future for education in Alberta.

Engaging Albertans around the future of education is a key focus for government. On May 4th, the inaugural Speak Out –Annual Student Conference in Edmonton will gather students’ views on learning and teaching.

To broaden the discussion around education, all Albertans are encouraged to join in community conversations across the province called Inspiring Education: A Dialogue with Albertans   And on June 8-9, through Setting the Direction for Special Education, Albertans will have an opportunity to share their input at a two-day forum for the development of the new, special education framework. For more information about these conversations visit: education.alberta.ca.

Each year Alberta Education and the Alberta Teachers’ Association work collaboratively to determine the Education Week theme to highlight the commitment and dedication of the students, teachers, parents, school boards and volunteers that make up Alberta’s education system.
