Albertans urged to recognize outstanding teachers
Nominations open for 2010 Excellence in Teaching Awards
Edmonton... Albertans are urged to recognize dedicated teachers and principals for the exceptional work they do with K-12 students across the province. Nominations for the 2010 Excellence in Teaching Awards are now being accepted.
A nomination package, including details of eligibility and selection criteria, is available at www.education.alberta.ca by clicking on the “Teachers” tab and then on “Excellence in Teaching Awards.” Nominations can be submitted to Alberta Education until February 5, 2010. This year, 134 semi-finalists will be selected. Twenty of those semi-finalists will receive Provincial Excellence in Teaching Awards, and three will receive SMARTer Kids Foundation Innovative Use of Technology Awards.
Award recipients will be formally honoured at a dinner and ceremony with the Minister of Education on May 29 in Calgary.
Alberta Education hosts the 22nd annual Excellence in Teaching Awards with the support of the Alberta School Councils’ Association, the Alberta School Boards’ Association, the Alberta Teachers’ Association, the Association of Alberta Deans of Education, the Council on Alberta Teaching Standards, the Edmonton Journal, and the SMARTer Kids Foundation.
The Excellence in Teaching Awards have been celebrated since 1989. To date, 8,624 teachers have been nominated and 446 teachers have received awards. Last year, 365 teachers were nominated and 23 received awards.
