International summit recognizes Alberta's leadership in technology

Edmonton... Alberta's use of technology in learning will be the focus of a presentation by Learning Minister Dr. Lyle Oberg, at the 2003 Public Services Summit at Nobel Week in Stockholm, Sweden.

Held December 9 to 11, the summit will focus on how the Internet and networking technologies are being used to serve citizens and enhance public sector work.

"Alberta is recognized internationally as a leader in learning technology and we are often asked to share our success story," said Oberg. "It's a tremendous honour to be invited to participate and highlight our technology initiatives."

In addition to making a presentation at the summit, Oberg will be attending other summit presentations, participating in workshops and panel discussions, and attending a variety of Nobel Week activities in Sweden and Norway. Summit participants include senior policy advisors and key decision makers in government and public sector organizations from around the world.

"The Public Services Summit and Nobel Week bring together some of the world's top thinkers and leaders," said Oberg. "It's an ideal opportunity to learn how others are using technology in the areas of education, health care and government, and learn more about the work of the 2003 Nobel Laureates."

During the summit and at a subsequent meeting with the Canadian Embassy in Norway, Oberg will also promote the overall excellence of Alberta's learning system and help advance international partnerships.

Oberg's travel, accommodation and participation in the Public Services Summit and Nobel Week activities are paid for entirely by the Summit 2003 organizing committee.
