Student Exchange
Are you an Alberta student looking for an adventure and powerful personal development experience? Want to experience a different culture and lifestyle? Why not apply for a student exchange?
Why go on exchange?
- learn about other cultures and countries;
- practice your language skills or learn a new language;
- gain intercultural communication and leadership skills;
- develop long-lasting friendships; and
- experience another way of life.
Our exchange program
The Student Language Development Exchange Program immerses second language learners in their language of study. Students study in Germany, Japan, Mexico, Spain or Quebec for approximately 3 months and host their German, Japanese, Mexican, Spanish or Quebecois counterpart in Alberta for 3 months.
Other exchange opportunities
The Yamate Exchange is designed to enhance the Japanese language capacity of Alberta students. Students may participate in a one month long group exchange or study independently for a full year at the Yamate Gakuin School in Yokohama, Japan.
The Interchange on Canadian Studies is an annual conference that brings youth from across the country together to explore an issue of importance to Canada. The conference is one week long and is held in the spring.
Additional exchange programs can be found in the Exchanges Canada database.
Exchange approval
If you are participating in an exchange other than the Student Language Development Exchange program or the Interchange on Canadian Studies, you are required to complete the reciprocal exchange approval form and submit it to your school jurisdiction.
