Visiting Teacher Program

The Visiting Teacher Program is intended for foreign teachers to teach their native language in Alberta and assist an Alberta school jurisdiction with the development of their second language program.

Currently, Alberta accepts teachers from Japan and Spain through cooperative agreements that exist between Alberta Education and the Education Ministries in Japan and Spain.

Alberta schools have hosted teachers from Japan for the past ten years and from Spain for the past five.   Alberta’s schools and students are further enriched through this learning and teaching opportunity.

Testimonials of the visiting teacher program:

“… [Ms.] Mizutani is working out really well at St. Thomas. Both students and staff love her. We are huge fans of the [visiting teacher] program and hope it continues …”

  - Cindi Vaselenak, Deputy Superintendent, Evergreen Catholic Separate Regional Division

NOTE: Individual teachers that are interested in teaching in Alberta but are not eligible for the visiting teacher program must apply directly to school authorities. A listing of all of the schools authorities in Alberta may be obtained from the Alberta Education website at http://education.alberta.ca/apps/schoolsonline/.
