AB–BC Teacher Mobility

Alberta – British Columbia Trade, Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement for the Teaching Profession
 

The Alberta and B.C. governments have signed a new agreement giving teachers in both provinces full labour mobility.  The new Labour Mobility Agreement for the Teaching Profession, signed under the Trade, Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement (TILMA), is the first of its kind in Canada.  Teachers in Alberta and B.C. will be able to pursue employment and obtain certification in either province without additional training and examination.

British Columbia teachers who hold a valid certificate named below can apply for Alberta certification based on the new labour mobility agreement (TILMA). 

Certificates issued by the Independent Schools Branch of the BC Ministry of Education:
  • Interim Independent School Professional Certificate
  • Permanent Independent School Professional Certificate

Certificates issued by the BC College of Teachers: 

  • Interim Standard Certificate
  • Permanent Standard Certificate
  • Non-expiring Standard Certificate
  • Interim Professional Certificate
  • Permanent Professional Certificate
  • Non-expiring Professional Certificate
  • Interim Standard Restricted Certificate
  • Permanent Standard Restricted Certificate
  • Interim Professional Restricted Certificate
  • Non-expiring Professional Restricted Certificate
BC teachers applying under this agreement must fill out the North American application form and follow the instructions provided.  BC teachers can apply without having to submit transcripts relating to their academic or professional preparation.
