Permanent Certification

When the holder of an Alberta Interim Professional Certificate has taught in the province's school system (public, separate, private, charter, francophone, and band schools), for a minimum of two school years (or equivalent), a written recommendation for permanent certification is made by the Superintendent of Schools or other Officer acceptable to the Minister of Education asserting that the teacher’s practice consistently demonstrates the Teaching Quality Standard Ministerial Order (016/97).

Note: Canadian Citizenship is a requirement for the issuance of a permanent certificate.

For Teachers – Permanent Certification:

Please submit the following with the completed and signed recommendation form:

  • photocopy of your Canadian Birth Certificate (Government Issued) OR official evidence of your Canadian Citizenship* (unless previously submitted),
  • evidence of all names used for legal purposes (unless previously submitted).

*Acceptable evidence of Canadian Citizenship is considered to be un unaltered copy of the front and back of the Canadian Citizenship Card along with a completed statutory declaration form; or the original document which can be submitted in-person or sent by mail.

Note:  Fee of $50.00 payable to the Minister of Finance should be provided to your school board to submit with your recommendation form.

For School Authorities:

Please submit the following directly to this Office:

  • completed recommendation form submitted on behalf of the individual teacher (with fee attached).
