Re-Issuance/ Extensions
The extension/re-issuance of the Interim Professional Certificate is processed upon receipt of a formal recommendation from a Superintendent of Schools.
Extension
If your Interim Professional Certificate expires on August 31 of the current year, a recommendation for an extension must be submitted on your behalf by the Superintendent of Schools from the jurisdiction in which you will be employed for the upcoming school year. The recommendation to extend must be submitted prior to the expiration date of the Interim Professional Certificate.
Re-issuance
If an Interim Professional Certificate is expired, a recommendation for a re-issuance must be submitted on your behalf by the Superintendent of Schools from the jurisdiction in which you will be employed.
Teaching experience obtained outside of Alberta
If your most recent teaching assignment was outside of Alberta prior to you receiving a recommendation for extension/re-issuance, you are required to submit a Statement of Professional Standing.
Teaching experience obtained within Alberta
If your most recent teaching assignment was in Alberta prior to you receiving a recommendation for extension/re-issuance, you are not required to submit a Statement of Professional Standing.
For Teachers – Extensions and Re-Issuances:
Please submit the following directly to this Office:
- evidence of all names used for legal purposes (unless previously submitted).
You are required to contact institutions to request the following documents be sent to this Office.
- official Statement of Professional Standing (if applicable)
Note: Fee of $25.00 payable to the Minister of Finance should be provided to your school board to submit with your recommendation form.
For School Authorities:
Please submit the following directly to this Office:
- a completed recommendation form submitted on behalf of the individual teacher (with fee attached).
