Teacher Certification

Statement of Professional Standing

Applicants

A Statement of Professional Standing verifies that you possess(ed) a valid certificate, states the date of issue, and indicates whether or not your certificate has been suspended, cancelled or otherwise withdrawn for cause.  The type or level of the teaching certificate and the scope of its authority may also appear on the Statement.

If you completed your initial teacher preparation program outside the province of Alberta, you are required to arrange for a Statement of Professional Standing from all previous Canadian jurisdictions where you hold or have held certification.  (This must include the jurisdiction where you completed your teacher preparation program, and where you are currently teaching or last taught.)  Jurisdiction refers to the provincial, state, or national Department/Ministry of Education or College/Federation of Teachers responsible for certification.

Alberta Certificated Teachers

If you are an Alberta certificated teacher who wishes to teach outside of Alberta, you may be required to provide evidence that you hold or have held valid teaching authority in Alberta.

A Statement of Professional Standing from Alberta verifies for prospective certification offices that you possess(ed) a valid certificate, states the date of issue, indicates whether or not your certificate has been suspended, cancelled or otherwise withdrawn for cause and confirms if you are in good standing in the province of Alberta.

To request a Statement of Professional Standing, we require:

  • name and address Certificate Number,
  • name and address of the institution (if outside Canada) where the statement is to be sent,
  • $25.00 payable to the Minister of Finance
