Alberta Education ensures that the histories, cultures and perspectives of Alberta's First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) peoples are reflected in the programs and resources it develops and authorizes. FNMI staff and stakeholders are involved in the validation and authorization of resources developed by Alberta Education.

Promising Practices in FNMI Education - Case Studies No. Two,
The second in a series of case studies that identify the factors for FNMI student success which include: teaching strategies appropriate to Aboriginal learner needs, curriculum that reflects FNMI cultures and perspectives, effective counselling and outreach, and a school environment that encourages student, parent and community engagement.

Based on the findings of the FNMI School-Community Learning Environment Projects (SCLEP), this report provides new knowledge and insight into effective practices in FNMI Education.

Promising Practices in First Nations, Métis and Inuit Education: Case Studies, May 2007
An in-depth case study was conducted of two SCLEP pilot schools based on the depth and detail of the statistical information provided.

Aboriginal Studies 10, 20, 30 Student Textbooks
Student textbooks Aboriginal Perspectives: Aboriginal Studies 10 (2004), Peoples and Cultural Change: Aboriginal Studies 20 (2005) and Contemporary Issues: Aboriginal Studies 30 (2005) are available to teachers and can be purchased from the Learning Resources Centre (LRC). The development of the student textbooks relied on the collaborative efforts of, and partnerships among, Aboriginal communities, educators, Aboriginal Elders and Alberta Education staff. Supplementary teacher resource guides for Aboriginal Studies 10-20-30 are also available at the LRC.

Aboriginal Studies and Earth Voices Videos

LearnAlberta.ca contains over 230 videos to support Aboriginal Studies and Social Studies programs.  Access this video series by logging onto LearnAlberta.ca Several of the videos are from the Earth Voices Video collection featuring interviews with First Nation, Métis and Inuit Elders, athletes, artists, activists, businesspeople, educators, journalists, musicians, and politicians who are primarily from Alberta. The videos cover a range of Aboriginal studies topics, including: worldviews, organization, symbolism, Métis, treaties, legislation, schooling, self-government, land claims, peoples, and contemporary issues. The videos are part of the Earth Voices Video Series I and II, and are licensed by Alberta Education from Earth Magic Media for use by Alberta teachers, students, and parents.
