Using this Site

Site Links

Alberta Education contains both internal and external links.

Internal Links

These are defined as websites / web pages that Alberta Education is directly responsible for (within the department).  This includes the main Department website, Learning Resources Centre, LearnAlberta, etc.

Depending on the browser version, links should display a document icon (such as Word or PDF).  This indicates to the user that a document link exists.

These links should open in the same browser window.  However, links to documents (such as Word or PDF) should open a new browser window as this enables a user to easily close the document and continue browsing the website.

Links within the page body (main content area) will display in blue and underlined.  This makes it more intuitive for users to understand visually where the links are.  There may be a few exceptions such as the Programs and Services content container – these are green and not underlined until they are rolled-over with the mouse.

External Links

These are defined as websites / web pages that Alberta Education is not responsible for (outside of the department).  External links include other Alberta Government sites, Federal Government, schools and school authorities, partnership sites, Non-Government Organizations (NGO’s), private enterprise, commercial sites, etc.

Depending on the browser version, links should display an external link icon (as illustrated here).  This indicates to the user that an external link exists.

As a general rule, external links will open in the same browser window.  Depending on the browser, users can right click to open the link in a new tab or a new window.  There may be some exceptions.

External Link Disclaimer

Links to other websites are provided as sources of information to users on an "as is" basis without warranty of any kind. Alberta Education is not responsible for maintaining external websites.
